Lee Mae-bang, also known as the "National Dancer," is a master among masters who left an indelible mark on the history of Korean traditional dance. This book is a comparative study of the dance movements of Lee Mae-bang's *Seungmu* from before and after its designation as a cultural heritage in 1987. As a master who devoted his entire life solely to traditional dance, the artistic significance of his *Seungmu* is synonymous with the significance of the history of traditional dance itself. Unlike other dancers, Lee Mae-bang is famous for personally sewing his own costumes and handcrafting props with delicacy and meticulousness. His decision to personally create costumes and props stemmed from his recognition that the realm of dance encompassed not only physical movement but also the costumes and props necessary for a performance. It is believed that this comprehensive perspective on dance served as a decisive factor and driving force that solidly perfected all of Lee Mae-bang's works. Since Lee Mae-bang’s *Seungmu* was designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 27 in 1987, active transmission and education have been carried out by Lee Mae-bang himself as well as his disciples. Furthermore, with the establishment of a training center in his hometown of Mokpo in 2005, the transmission of the dance has become even more active. Lee Mae-bang’s *Seungmu* is the essence of Korean dance and a precious cultural asset that must be passed down to future generations. Therefore, it is necessary to make various efforts for the efficient transmission and proper preservation of Lee Mae-bang’s *Seungmu*.
