Description

The third edition features three distinct characteristics compared to the second edition. First, the content regarding each of the three perspectives on the curriculum has been significantly reduced, while the content on curriculum policy has been substantially expanded. This is based on the judgment that Homo Phono Sapiens are more interested in practice than theory. While the second edition allocated two chapters each to conservative, progressive, and radical perspectives on the curriculum, the third edition includes only one chapter for each perspective. Second, the field of curriculum policy has been significantly expanded and expanded. Content regarding curriculum policies or topics receiving new attention in Korea and globally has been added. New additions include the "understanding-centered curriculum development" model (also known as "flipped curriculum development"), the competency-based curriculum, the Free Semester System, and the High School Credit System. Furthermore, not only have significant portions of the same chapters from the second edition been rewritten, but the content of each chapter has also been refined to include only the minimum essential information. As a result, a significant amount of the content previously placed in the main text of each chapter in the second edition has been deleted, and some of the deleted material deemed suitable for selective use has been preserved in the ‘Advanced Learning’ section at the end of each chapter. Third, a new chapter titled ‘Modern Thought and Education’ has been included to provide modern people living in the era of Phono Sapiens with a way of thinking suitable for them. The schools we experience today are products of modern society and take standardization as a key characteristic. In contrast, Phono Sapiens living in the modern era prioritize de-standardization—that is, individuality and uniqueness—above all else. As a preview of the discussion in ‘Modern Thought and Education,’ the work of the French modern philosopher Deleuze on ‘The Theory of Learning and Curriculum of the Generation of Difference’ has been covered.
