Kim Hang: Eschatology Office
This book analyzes the debates among great thinkers—including Giorgio Agamben, Walter Benjamin, Michel Foucault, Carl Schmitt, and Jürgen Habermas—who responded to or opposed each other in various ways, by intersecting them. Through this, it reveals the true nature of the modern order of governance and explores the potential of "politics" as the only act by which humans can prove themselves, standing against the paradigm of "oikonomia-biopolitics," which equates human life with "bare life" and treats it as an object of governance. Furthermore, it approaches the problem of "politics" on various levels, such as by analyzing the fundamental conflicts in Western political thought surrounding the state of exception by taking the hidden debate between Benjamin and Schmitt as its subject, and by examining the discussions of Carl Schmitt, Leo Strauss, and Freud on the concept of the "enemy" to suggest directions for the appropriation of 20th-century imagination toward the reconstruction of the "political."
