Kim Dong-woon: Korean Chaebol and the Holding Company System
How many companies and chaebols have adopted the holding company system? Why and in what manner are they adopting it? What changes are occurring since its adoption? Are these changes positive or negative? Is the holding company system properly establishing itself as a desirable alternative governance structure? Will the current enthusiasm for establishing holding companies continue in the future? This book, *Korean Chaebol and the Holding Company System*, aims to find answers and clues to these questions. The book analyzes the major trends and characteristics of all 34 chaebols. It consists of five chapters. Chapter 1 examines trends regarding "holding companies under the Fair Trade Act," after which Chapters 2, 3, and 4 examine in detail the "34 chaebols and their 51 affiliated general holding companies up to 2015" and the "24 chaebols and their 29 affiliated general holding companies as of 2015." Chapter 5 summarizes the preceding discussions. The appendix contains related materials that supplement the content of the main text.
