All the books of the Bible are equal as the word of God, but if I had to name one book especially necessary and important for the New Testament church, I would not hesitate to choose Matthew. For a full understanding of the gospel of God’s kingdom as told by Matthew, a disciple of Jesus Christ, this book sets Christ and his disciples against the forces of Satan. It also addresses what God’s salvation (repentance) and a proper life of faith (bearing fruit) should look like. The author points out that the Korean church would look very different today if Christians in Korea had worked to understand and practice even just the words of Matthew’s Gospel. That is because the teachings and life of Christ attested to in Matthew stand in direct opposition to the hypocrisy and authoritarianism of religious people. The author also emphasizes that the door to salvation was opened wide through the merit of the Son of God, who removed every obstacle from the gospel of God’s kingdom and the path of salvation that Matthew proclaims, and obeyed all the way to the cross. This book does not explain every aspect of Matthew, but it persuasively conveys the meaning of the mountain range that is Matthew and its great peaks. Readers may come to understand what a few trees in Matthew mean in the context of the whole mountain.
