Description

The “Little Curiosity Pop-Up Flap Book” series answers children’s everyday science questions. These knowledge-packed flap books explain young children’s everyday curiosities in simple scientific terms and teach good habits. Each volume covers topics closely connected to children’s lives, such as poop, handwashing, and sleep, as well as science topics they wonder about and often ask about, such as the moon and dinosaurs. Children naturally learn essential habits such as washing their hands, using the bathroom, and sleeping, while growing interested in science they encounter around them, from the moon and space to dinosaurs and fossils. Each book has 20 to 40 large and small flaps: a question appears outside, and lifting the flap reveals a clear answer. Concise text and illustrations explain basic knowledge about one topic and help children gradually discover why and how everyday phenomena occur. Why do elephants take mud baths? Why can’t we eat chocolate without soil? Thirty-seven flaps answer children’s questions about soil! Why do elephants bathe in mud? Why couldn’t we have chocolate without soil? How do earthworms keep soil healthy? This book answers children’s many questions about soil and introduces new facts in an accessible way. Six topics each have several explanations, covering a total of 37 things about soil.

I could only give vague answers when my child asked why soil exists and what it does, but Usborne’s *What Does Soil Do?* flap book has made them a soil expert! Its 37 pop-ups answer all kinds of questions about soil. My chocolate-loving child learned that cacao trees also grow in soil and asks every time they eat chocolate, “Mom, cacao
