Description

Preface: I have suffered greatly from panic disorder and depression. I learned that no illness is more painful and difficult to heal than an illness of the mind. I hoped my painful experience could help people struggling with relationships or emotional illness through studying temperament and counseling; that hope inspired this book. While studying Christian counseling in seminary, I learned temperament theory from the U.S. National Christian Counseling Association (NCCA) and earned a certificate. Dr. Richard G. Arno, who developed NCCA's theory, deeply influenced me. Grounded in Christian faith, he devoted his ministry to understanding temperament and counseling, focusing on healing individual lives rather than fame or wealth. His convictions became a root of my strength. For over 20 years since learning the theory, I have taught temperament and counseled people. I have continually seen individuals and families with relationship difficulties experience emotional healing through understanding and applying temperament. This convinced me of the need to understand temperament and its great effects on people and communities. This book still has many shortcomings.

This book was so helpful. I tried the temperament-based conversations described near the end with my husband and children. It helped clear up misunderstandings, and I experienced how each person wants to hear different things according to their temperament. Highly recommended for anyone with a teenager or trouble communicating with a spouse!
