Kang Hong-gu et al.: Architopia's Experiment

From 1960 until recently, Korea was the best stage for a large-scale development program. Korean society had no doubt that new architecture and cities would make life better. From the shopping malls to the comprehensive development programs, apartments to publishing towns, and Hayry Art Valley to the new Pan-Mand. Politicians, architects and middle class have dreamed of Utopia in their own way through architecture. The book re-enlightens the South Korean Akitopia, which has not been well-discovered by political attitudes, academic distinctions, and the myths of the architects. Who has been desiring and practicing what Utopia has been for the last 50 years, and what the consequences are. So what is akitopia? The book adds English, which means architecture, and idealization, to the word "a" and "a vision" that is a dream that will be achieved by architects and sculptures. Photoographers, novelists, critics, humanists and architects re-inform the architectural-utopia in the light of Korean modern history or personal experience. This is a joint publication, a exhibition, a association of Eastern names at the National Museum of Modern Art.
