Although incomplete and partial, it is worth reading at least once in that it attempts to systematize a piece of the low understanding regarding the communication and behavior of human groups.

Jürgen Habermas's masterpiece. Considered one of the three major works defending rationality, alongside *The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere* (1962) and *Philosophical Discourse on Modernity* (1985), this book has been published in a complete translation 25 years after its original publication in Germany in 1981. Translated by Jang Chun-ik, a professor of philosophy at Hallym University, the core message of this book is that the world is composed of a dual structure of the "lifeworld" (Lebenswelt) and the "system." In this context, the lifeworld refers to a realm where "communicative rationality" is possible—where humans, as subjects of language and action, can mutually verify truth through rational discussion. Conversely, the system is a domain where behavior is coordinated through non-verbal media such as money and power; it rejects ethics and pursues only purposive rationality (instrumental rationality). Based on this distinction, the book points out the pathological phenomena of modern society that arise when the logic of the system invades and colonizes the lifeworld. It systematically incorporates the history of sociological theory ranging from Marx, Bebe, Durkheim, Mead, and Parsons, and comprehensively covers modern social theories ranging from cognitive psychology to linguistic theory, behavioral theory, and literary anthropology.
