Joo Sung-soo: History of Korean Civil Society: The Democratization Period (1987–2017)

In order to be a history of civil revolution at the end of '52, which has not ceased to be the cause of democracy, we must now be backed by the laws and institutions of the country. Only ‘ critical ’ and ‘ strong ’ civil society, meeting with ‘effective ’ countries based on democratic leadership, can create ‘ strong’ democracy. The civil society [administrative history] in this book could see the importance of their effective, powerful and critical role, with the state, the civil society, [the organization] focusing on citizens. Democracy can never be perfect. The nation is entitled to a ‘strong’ democracy as a hybrid democracy, where direct democracy is the combination of itself and the representative democracy. Without reform in the direction of direct democracy, which reflects the voice and judgment of the people given by the candle-lit civil revolution in '20, it is not easy to heal the many defects that the current democracy has. There is a political reform challenge for ‘strong’ democracy, and an economic democratic reform that blocks the integrity of the political system and corruption, which must be joined by citizens and civil society. We need to think about the distribution reform and system that lowers privileged benefits and improves the wealth of high-income people. The security of the social security community, which guarantees the livelihood and human life of difficult citizens, is also a pressing challenge. This book can contribute to the secure triangle partnership between these ‘effective ’ and ‘ critical ’ citizens, who are running their reforms and democracy.
