Description

It all began in the UK in 2013. Word of mouth alone made Me Before You a sensation, with book clubs, social media, and the press discussing it. When it was later published in Germany, it sold enormously and reached No. 1 on Amazon. In Sweden, it became famous as the book Princess Madeleine read on her honeymoon. It was published in Korea in January 2014. Despite being the first book by an author introduced there, it immediately reached No. 1 on the overall bestseller list that year. It was the first new novel that year to earn that distinction. Cumulative sales passed 60,000 copies in just four months, and it held the No. 1 spot for 12 consecutive weeks. Readers who had hoped to see it as a movie got their wish, and the film adaptation of the same name was also a hit. (It drew about one million moviegoers in Korea.) Readers responded to this rare work: not a light romance, but a story that defies the conventions of romance and offers weighty reflections on life. With extensive editing by the author, a new translation by the translator, and a fresh cover, Me Before You is ready to become readers’ book of a lifetime once again.

This is my personal review after reading a copy provided by the publisher. When this book was first published, I was so curious that I read it in the original before it had even been translated. A few years later, I heard about the death of Dr. David Goodall, a 104-year-old Australian scientist, and the circumstances strongly reminded me of the book. More recently, news covered a couple in Australia and the Netherlands who decided to end their lives together. Although more people are choosing

This is a freely written review of a book provided by the publisher. What if a person ground down by poverty, who thinks the fate they’re trapped in is the whole world, meets someone who used to have everything go their way and enjoy a wide world, but whose expansive mind is now trapped in a body immobilized by an accident? Could they get along? I think it can be hard for people with completely opposite temperaments to become close. But I’ve also seen many people who are surprisingly attracted

Book provided for review. Page 556: “I realized how frightening it was to live without him. I wanted to demand, ‘How did you get the right to ruin my life?’” There are many romances, but Will and Louisa's is unusual: a wealthy quadriplegic man who has planned his death, and a caregiver who suddenly loses her job and has always sacrificed for her family. At first glance, it might seem like the familiar Cinderella story of a poor woman and a rich man. But instead of that romantic cliché, Me

A book of a lifetime—no more needs to be said! Book provided for review. I remember reading Me Before You for the first time and sobbing my eyes out. I was so curious about the new revised edition, with its cleaner, more graceful translation and new cover, that I reread it. I thought a second reading would affect me less, but I was sobbing again at the end. (For context, I'm a huge T type.) No more needs to be said: an absolute, highly recommended book of a lifetime! Favorite passages: “At

Best before: March 19, 2007. A story that stays with you more deeply in the moment of preparing for an ending than in the moment love begins. Jojo Moyes’s signature novel Me Before You returns in a revised edition for its tenth anniversary. It carefully updates its language and gender sensitivity to reflect how times have changed, connecting the story to the present again. “Of course I want the two of them to get along. It would be lovely if Will came to think of you as a friend, not just

This post was written after the publisher provided a book. Will was a promising young businessman who suddenly became quadriplegic; Louisa had been supporting her family. Their love, and their attitudes toward life beyond their love, are at the heart of this book. It is not just a love story; it has many lines that prompt reflection on love in various ways. Shouldn't you stay by someone until the end if you love them? Louisa's thought is evident later, when she confesses her love to Will. She

“You only get one life. It is your duty as a human being to live that one life as fully as possible.” (p. 301) “Sometimes, Clark, you’re the only thing that makes me want to get up in the morning.” (p. 412) “But I hope he lives while he wants to live. Otherwise, forcing him to go on means you and I—no matter how much we love him—become part of a terrible human race that takes away his right to choose.” (p. 471) I had assumed the ending would be obvious, but chose this book after hearing so much

2025-183rd review copy. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, translated by Kim Sun-hyung, Dasan Books. I wrote this personal review as a member of the review group hosted by Book Recommendation Woman (@choem1013), after receiving the book from Dasan Books (@dasanbooks). Bookstagram, book recommendations, bookish posts, book review. Can my love stop you from dying? My thoughts: I watched the movie a long time ago, before reading the book, and sobbed through it. I watched it like a woman who always has a

Book provided for review. This novel is famous as both a book and a movie, so I had heard of Me Before You for ages. It had been well known for so long that even when I wasn't reading much, I thought about watching the movie. But I imagined it would be such a sad romance that it would leave me sobbing, so I never did. Then, after I started posting about books, so many people recommended it that I became curious. The moment I opened it, I was completely drawn in. The writing is easy to read and

The beautiful and sad final six months of a quadriplegic man, for whom death is the only thing he can decide for himself, and the woman who falls in love with him. I reread the revised edition of the book that inspired the movie Me Before You. I first learned about it through the movie, and last summer I got to read the book for the first time. I remember crying my eyes out throughout. This moving novel by Jojo Moyes offers deep reflection on love, hope, and the choices we make in life. It
