John Owen: Doctrine of Justification

The doctrine of title guides Christian practice, and there is no gospel truth that involves our whole obedience more than this. Because all the foundation, reasons and motivations of our duty to God are included in this doctrine. So to improve all our obligations, we must teach this doctrine and there is no other way. What we should be trying to learn or learn from this doctrine only in this doctrine is, How can we find peace with God and live a life for him that is acceptable to God in what we do? Because the righteousness which we are justified in God is our own, and that which is in us, and not what we have done; it is given us without cost, and this gift is due to a pledge. ‘ Happy is he who has not worked, and whose righteousness is counted by God. ’. And by faith we receive what is given and passed on. Then we don't contribute anything to participation in this objection.
