The short chapters and numbered sections make it easier to read and take notes. The key passages are printed in red, which is a nice touch. The translation is good, too, and keeps me focused. I looked for volume 2 but could not find it. Please publish a second volume!
John Bunyan: The Pilgrim's Progress 1
This book, The Pilgrim's Progress, begins with a dream John Bunyan had. Its protagonist, Christian, lives in the City of Destruction, which is destined to perish. One day, he finds a book in a field and comes to believe its warning of judgment against the city, as well as in the Celestial City (heaven) and eternal life. Guided by the Evangelist, he recognizes his sin and begins his journey toward heaven. Along this difficult road, Christian faces many hardships and dangers. He is tempted by false teachers and, exhilarated by the joy of heaven, falls into the Slough of Despond. His companions criticize and abandon him, and he also puts them in danger. In his battle with Apollyon and in the Valley of the Shadow of Death, he narrowly escapes death; he also sees the bodies of countless pilgrims with his own eyes. Yet with help from the wise people he meets along the way, and by learning from foolish and unwise people as cautionary examples, he learns what is truly good and evil. He also teaches Hopeful, who admires him and follows him. At last, Christian reaches the gates of heaven he has longed for and receives eternal life. His journey shows the importance of faith, courage, and perseverance in seeking salvation.
