Jeremy Crampton: Map Paradox
The book begins with the'mapographic anxiety' about inappropriate use of maps. It is the concern and uncertainty about how maps are used as political propaganda and ideological tools. The alliance with Hegemoni power, such as Western imperialism, racism, expansion of capitalism and exploitation of reproduction, war, is a cross-section of the unrest we have experienced. The map war on the map of Mercator, launched by historian Arno Peters, is a very well-known political character. Despite the scientific basis for remolding the round earth into squares and its usefulness to sail, criticism of the Mercator map is understandable, as it seems to be a clever lie for the northern powers and also fosters inequality. The best way to overcome the politics of the map is to put maps and mapping in the neutral zone. It's not about evaluating the value of right and wrong, it's about being a window that shows the world exactly as it is. But in reality, mapping is a social byproduct that inevitably cannot escape politics. Instead, the dry map sciences can isolate themselves from society and hinder true leadership. The Map Paradox. There was no serious discussion of maps in traditional political and social geography, cultural geography, as the author mentioned, and it is difficult to find in the GlS textbooks, as well as in knowledge, politics, power, resistance, and practice. They are literally all ‘ silent. ’. The one who is holding his hand in question about this silence is Jeremy Kramton, a leading scholar and social theorist.
