Jeong Min-seung: Lifelong learning, another old future
The theoretical potential of lifelong education is significant. It can clearly elucidate the problems of life, which philosophy has long grappled with, from the perspective of learning; propose learning as a concept that links action and structure—difficult challenges in sociology—and reveal the creation and development of communities at the level of living politics. Dichotomous concepts such as "individual and society" and "you and me" are redefined through mediating concepts of relationship or activity. Lifelong learning is the central concept of the humanities, and lifelong education is the practice that systematically supports such learning. While lifelong learning enables civic agency and determines the direction of life planning, this broad and deep theoretical framework has not been sufficiently discussed or seriously shared until now. This book summarizes the research of an author who has studied the field of lifelong education for over 20 years, proposing a lifelong education perspective on viewing the world. It redefines concepts such as publicness and collectivity, which are considered important in lifelong education, addresses issues related to the field of lifelong education—such as the identity of lifelong educators, multiculturalism, entrance exams, and online education—reorients concepts outside the classroom, such as equality and context, to examine the complexity of lifelong education, and sheds light on feminist practice and online interaction from the perspective of lifelong education.
