"2,000 Years of Korea-Japan Exchange, Toward a New Future" features conversations with 23 Japanese intellectuals. Jeong Gu-jong, a distinguished professor at Dongseo University—a former journalist at the Dong-A Ilbo and a central figure in the Korea-Japan private exchange network—met with 23 interviewees from various sectors of Japanese society to examine, through interviews, how these exchanges exist in contemporary Japanese society and how the products of historical exchange are reflected in the lives and consciousness of the Japanese people. Chapters 1 through 3 of Part 1 cover historical events that symbolically represent the 2,000-year history of Korea-Japan exchange, such as the "Baekje Village Restoration Movement." Chapters 4 and 5 explore the contributions made to Japan's ceramic culture by Joseon potters who were taken captive during the Imjin War and the Jeongyu War. Part 2 covers Korean folk art exhibited at the Japan Folk Crafts Museum established by Yanagi Muneyoshi. Part 3 weaves together stories of genres and their protagonists that are building new networks of exchange amidst the diverse cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan, including literature, theater, and sports. Part 4 covers the movement to reignite the Korean Wave, and Part 6 compiles suggestions from leading Japanese intellectuals striving to revitalize civilian exchanges.
