Description

Draw the fruits and vegetables that often appear on our tables using colored pencils. Vegetable Botanical Art, now in a revised edition, is packed with the know-how of Jenny Lee, president of the IKBA Botanical Art Education Association and operator of a studio specializing in botanical art, who has introduced its appeal to many people. The revised book improves on areas that were lacking in the earlier edition and adds a new intermediate section, so you can draw a wider variety of fruits and vegetables. The book has four parts. Part 1, “Getting to Know Botanical Art,” covers what beginners should learn before they start drawing: choosing tools, using colored pencils, depicting reflected light to give plants a three-dimensional feel, plant structure, and the classification of horticultural crops. Part 2, “Drawing Botanical Art: Beginner,” explains how to draw 15 kinds of fruits and vegetables and shares the author's special tips. Part 3, “Drawing Botanical Art: Intermediate,” introduces coloring techniques not used in the beginner section and more advanced ways to render details, with 10 kinds of fruits and vegetables. Part 4, “Experiencing Botanical Art,” includes templates for every artwork in the book so readers can follow along and draw them themselves. At the back, there are also small postcards to use as home decor or to write to someone special. Botanical art may look difficult because it captures even the fine details of plants.

The book is so beautiful. It feels healing just to look at it. I wondered whether I should buy it, but that was silly. I should have bought it sooner instead of hesitating!

I'm learning botanical art and bought this because I wanted to try vegetables, too. I'm not skilled enough yet, but if I keep practicing hard, I should be able to draw them well, right? I love how detailed the explanations are.

I bought this because I finished the beginner book and wanted to move on to the next level. Since it is a printed book, the colors differ from the real thing, but the color chips are helpful.

Hello! I'm impatient, always bouncing in my seat, with no patience and clumsy hands. Botanical art was one of the things I thought I could never do. All those incredibly meticulous details do not fit my personality at all—I thought, “That's not for me.” But it is so beautiful! When I look at botanical artists, my respect for them wells up from deep inside. The kind author provides a color chart that is basic but so important, along with fundamentals and techniques for absolute beginners. Ah, I

For a book at this price, I think it offers a really good package. Drawing books for self-study often start at the very beginning and stop at the most basic level, which can be disappointing; this book seems to fill that gap. It would be hard to travel somewhere for lessons, and this seems helpful for learning a little at a time. It gives detailed explanations of the tools and practice needed to start colored-pencil botanical art, with simple illustrated composition exercises. There are
