Jang Moon-sik: Kim Jeong-ho: A geographer of the Joseon Dynasty who created the Daedongyeojido map
Volume 50 of the "Textbook Biographies for Lower Grades," titled *Kim Jeong-ho: The Joseon Dynasty Geographer Who Created the Daedongyeojido*, aids in children's character development and value formation. It covers the lives of great figures who overcame adversity through passion and effort to achieve great accomplishments. Fifty-three children's literature authors were invited to present historical events in an engaging way, tailored to a child's perspective. Readers can identify which figures lived in each era and what major events occurred. The introduction provides guidance on reading instruction, while the end of the volume includes a chronology to help readers trace the footsteps of these great figures. Kim Jeong-ho was born the son of a traveling merchant during the Joseon Dynasty. Because he was not of the nobility, he found it difficult to receive a proper education or enter government service. However, upon seeing a pictorial map he happened to acquire, he developed a single dream: to "draw a map that allows one to see the entire world at a glance." He dedicated his entire life to realizing that dream, traversing the entire country on foot to create a more accurate map. The Daedongyeojido, which he created after enduring all kinds of hardships, remains a precious legacy of our country today.
