Jang Mi-ja: Commentary on 2 Kings

The author argues that while Israel, due to its geopolitical location, could prosper by serving as a bridgehead for international trade in the ancient Near East, it also faced the risk of becoming entangled in power struggles among neighboring nations if mismanaged; therefore, the kings had to implement a rule centered on Jehovah to ensure a safe and prosperous existence. Accordingly, the author views the covenant with God as the most critical element in interpreting Israel's historical records, followed by an understanding of geography and relations with other nations. Thus, the book facilitates a rich understanding of 2 Kings by including exegesis interpreted from the perspective of covenant theology, maps containing geographical backgrounds and data such as the international and domestic road networks of the ancient Near East, and various special notes and footnotes containing supplementary materials related to history, theology, archaeology, and the original biblical languages. Furthermore, at the end of each chapter, the content is summarized and three representative points of application are presented, allowing readers to hear God's message conveyed to the church today through 2 Kings.
