This book can be considered an important introductory text for laying the foundation of oral literature. It is easy to understand as it covers the subcategories of oral literature by field in each chapter. I feel that I established a significant portion of my basic knowledge of oral literature by using this book. Some may find it difficult due to the heavy use of classical Chinese, and since the research discussions are somewhat dated, it may be insufficient for grasping the new issues
