Description

Discover the Tao Te Ching, one of the greatest classics of the East, praised by Tolstoy late in life: “This is an extraordinary book, and I will definitely translate it.” The author attempted an English translation because of the text’s brevity. A key to learning English is communicating by condensing long sentences into very short ones. This book presents the original Chinese characters, their Korean meanings, and an English translation, with brief explanations of each chapter and footnotes on the original to make it easier to interpret. The hope is that readers can more enjoyably and easily understand Laozi’s profound teachings, which address the heart of humanity’s problems in the 21st century, while also studying Chinese characters and English.

A review of the Tao Te Ching: I’ve read several translations by different people, but James Kim, a Korean American writer, has made this version concise and easy to understand. Most of all, I really liked the English translation. Reading difficult Chinese characters through the English version made their meaning click clearly for me. I had thought Laozi, the author of the Tao Te Ching, was Chinese, but the author cites the “Laozi and Han Feizi” biography in Sima Qian’s Records of the Grand

The original text of the Tao Te Ching is presented first in Korean and then in English. You can study it in Korean and then use the English translation to study English as well.
