In overcoming the limits of Marxism history, the 'City of the Mind' opened up a new chapter in Japanese postwar history. Irokawa Dykichi, a pioneer in the study of civil thought, saw that despite analysis and criticism of Japanese capitalism, Marxism's history was rather succumbed to the terrible surrender of mass conversion to the Emperor. The book proves that the modern imperial system, which is central to the ‘land ’ concept of a thousand years of thought, was not a product of history created by repeating trial and error, but it did not have a beginning of a people's inner world. In particular, the idea of a ‘ national body ’ penetrated the heart of the public consciousness, but was not in the true sense of being the mental center of the people and trying to find the possibility of a very personal inner world.
