Im Seong-ju: Nokmunjip 6
This is a collection of poems and prose by Nokmun Im Seong-ju (1711–1788), a scholar of the late Joseon Dynasty. Consisting of 26 volumes in 13 books, this collection is characterized by the inclusion of prefaces, unlike the general practice of placing poetry at the beginning of a collection. Regarding this, the author explains in the preface that he placed poetry at the end of the collection because he regarded it as a secondary work and the number of works was limited, while placing the prefaces, which deal with academic debates with great devotion, at the beginning. The contents include prefaces, miscellaneous writings, prefaces, records, inscriptions and postscripts, and treatises. Composed of discourses, inscriptions, admonitions, eulogies, memorial texts, prayers, epitaphs, and biographies, the miscellaneous writings fully capture Nokmun's philosophical thought. It is expected that this book will stimulate more active research on Nokmun and facilitate a re-evaluation of his philosophy, thereby greatly aiding the study of Neo-Confucianism.
