The content was easy to understand.
This seems to be both a travel book that makes England easy to understand and a book about the humanities. It is incomparable to other travel books. With this book, a trip to Britain is assured. Typical dense travel books are just so-so: you roughly glance at the big headings and pictures, then put them in your bag. This book is different. Traveling around Britain for ten days with author (and professor) Lim Sang-woo was also immensely satisfying. Thank you for letting me read the book, haha.
I traveled around Western Europe 15 years ago and wanted to tell a friend about it, but when the time came, I could not remember much. While preparing for a trip to Britain this time, I read this book and loved it. The local British guide explains history and culture in an easy-to-understand way, which is especially great. Since I saw so many places in a short time, I never quite reached the point where it all sank in; thanks to this book, my trip to Britain should be enjoyable.
Im Sang-woo: A 10-Day Humanities Tour Around the UK
What history gave Britain descriptions such as "the empire on which the sun never sets" and "the land of gentlemen"? Traveling around Britain may make you wonder how this country came to rule the world. What gave Britain, once a second-tier power among countries such as France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain, its strength? As you travel around Britain, you find history, art, and great literature still alive. It ruled the world, brought about the Industrial Revolution, and built modern industry. The development of literature and art, beginning with Shakespeare, led to the flourishing of series such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. Behind this country's splendid culture and arts lies an ungentlemanly history: it accumulated wealth through the slave trade and ruled the world after bringing about the Industrial Revolution. A Ten-Day Humanities Journey Around Britain is the first book in the Local Guides' Humanities Travel series. It follows a ten-day journey through landmarks in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the countries that make up the United Kingdom. Videos of local scenery linked by QR codes and narration that feels like listening to a local guide make you feel as though you have actually visited each destination.
