Im Jong-bok: Jangwoljungseon-ryu Gayageum Byeongchang: Lyrics Collection

“Jangwoljungseon-ryu Gayageum Byeongchang: Lyrics Collection” was compiled by refining the existing repertoire of Jangwoljungseon-ryu Gayageum Byeongchang to clarify the lyrics, and by adding existing transmitted pieces as well as newly arranged ones, continuing the legacy of the teacher who recreated Pansori into Gayageum Byeongchang. The Jangwoljungseon-ryu Gayageum Byeongchang currently in transmission consists of a total of 10 pieces in 7 sections: 2 short songs, 5 sections of Simcheongga, 1 section of Chunhyangga, 1 section of Sugungga, 4 folk songs, and 4 original compositions. This is a relatively small volume of pieces compared to other schools. Furthermore, there is a scarcity of transmission materials, such as recordings and musical scores, regarding the repertoire. A total of six newly arranged songs have been included: four from *Simcheongga*—specifically, the scene where Sim Bong-sa asks about Lady Kwak and laments (*Jugwapohye*), the scene where the immortals lament after Simcheong falls into the water (*Haenghwa-eun*), the scene where Ppaengdeok-eomeom acts spitefully (*Ppaengdeok-eomeom Simsul-taryeong*), and the scene where the Emperor meets Simcheong inside a flower bud (*Il-il-eun Cheonja-nim*); and two songs arranged as *Gayageum Byeongchang* with gayageum accompaniment, based on the *Pansori* short songs *Insaeng Baeknyeon* and *Sacheolga*, which Master Jang Wol-jungseon enjoyed singing during his lifetime. Additionally, *Paldo Minyo Byeongchang* has been included for beginners studying *Gayageum Byeongchang* for the first time, and explanations have been added to the footnotes to aid in understanding the meaning and lyrics of the Jang Wol-jungseon style *Gayageum Byeongchang*.
