The speed of technological and service innovation is making society unpredictable. We speak of the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, yet in 20 years, the sparks of the Fifth and Sixth Industrial Revolutions may engulf the globe. It feels as though the neologism "Web 2.0" emerged just yesterday, but now we are in the era of Web 4.0. Contrary to its title, this book deals with the issues and ecosystems currently surrounding media. The reality is that it cannot address the future of media. Nevertheless, the reason for titling it "Future" is that it covers issues that are not yet being seriously considered or actively adopted within the media industry. These include journalism integrated with artificial intelligence, big data, drones, virtual reality, augmented reality, and multi-sensory media. Such trends in journalism are no longer the future. In particular, regarding the technological level of AI and big data—the core of the Fourth Industrial Revolution—we are falling behind not only advanced nations like the U.S. and Japan but also China and India; there is a significant concern that the journalism technologies, services, and content incorporating these technologies will suffer the same fate. If the level of the people reflects the level of the nation and the level of the media reflects the level of the people, then to build a new nation and a new future, we must innovate new future media technologies, content, and services. I hope this book serves as a brief introduction for undergraduates and practicing journalists. - From the Preface
