Im Ho-jun: Spanish film
*Spanish Cinema* is a research book on Spanish film that analyzes Spanish auteur directors. Written by Professor Im Ho-jun, who majored in Spanish culture, film, and film theory, this book is an introductory text on film that analyzes the works of representative Spanish auteur directors. Using the two keywords of "national identity" and "auteurism," the author examines the cinematic worlds of 12 Spanish directors, ranging from Luis Buñuel to Alejandro Amenabar. Through this, he explores how their auteur consciousness intersects with national issues, cultural signifiers, and Spain's artistic traditions. The author begins by examining how auteur cinema was formed in Spain and how it portrayed Spanish national identity through the films of Luis Buñuel—the godfather of Spanish National Cinema and an indispensable figure in Spanish history—and the pioneers of Spanish auteurism, Berlanga and Bardem. In addition, by analyzing the films of Carlos Saura and Victor Erice to examine how political oppression and history were incorporated into their movies, it will provide a guide to Spain's history and political culture, along with the films of Almodóvar, who has emerged as an icon of the 'New Spain,' and the works of a new generation of filmmakers.
