Im Cheol-gyu: Greek tragedy
Human history is born through a process of ceaseless conflict. Countless victims resulting from the shifts in civilization, the development of ideas demanded by the times, the seizure of power by vested interests, and the consequent wars, violence, and oppression lie asleep in a sea of suffering, shedding desperate blood in the vortex of history. Our present lives are no different. Amidst a rapidly changing social system, we are writhing in agony against invisible violence and oppression. Driven by the rampant rise of neoliberalism, the infinite competition to acquire capital has spawned unnecessary wars, and power struggles determine the very survival of nations. Human lives, unable to overcome this invisible oppression and thus unable to find true freedom, are as precarious as a shipwreck sailing aimlessly. In other words, humans wander, unable to find the reason for their existence any longer, shedding tears of pain in the face of a helpless existence. There is no human being who does not fear death. If so, by what can a human life, for which simply being alive is suffering, be saved? This book offers an answer to this question. The tragic fate bestowed by God and the free will of humans rejecting it, the desperate struggle to understand the essential existence of humanity as they stand in opposition and clash with each other… …. Ultimately, the cry of pain will not end until the realization is made that the eternal, immortal life that all humans aspire to does not exist.
