Im Chae-gwang: Reading Erich Fromm's *Escape from Freedom*
The escape from freedom is a report on the violent realities of our society. Further, we want to point out and explain not only fear and violence by strange and hostile totalitarians but also the fact that we can be perpetrators of fear and abuse ourselves. In this book, ‘Freedom ’ is a clue to the underlying social pathology. The 'freedom' that prompts the idea of freedom from violence, freedom from violent reality. Violence suppresses the existence of individuals, controls and destroys existence. He saw one of the most serious challenges humanity has to solve as a battle against violence. And that fight is still going on everywhere.
