Description

This book is a collection of the many questions and mistakes the authors faced while finding their place in society, along with cases involving the many students they encountered while working at a university. Students worry a lot about their futures but cannot find a way forward. They need to choose a career to get a job, yet it is hard to know what career to pursue when they have never worked. Many students become discouraged here. In fact, thinking about a career is thinking about the direction of one's life. Once you have some idea of the answer to what direction you want your life to take, career and employment decisions follow naturally. That is why the starting point is understanding yourself. And you need to make the most of college. This book covers four themes: understanding yourself, having a worthwhile and thoughtful college experience, reflecting on the direction of your life, and considering your career. It is not asking you to do something extraordinary all at once. Anyone can gradually build experience over time. The authors hope to help you add your own distinctive color to the person at the center of it all: you.

One striking idea in the book is that we need to understand ourselves. Whether we talk big or take action, it's entirely up to us, so I came away thinking that we need to establish a clear understanding of ourselves.

Talent is a very sensitive subject. As the book says on page 32, some teenagers and young adults may worry, 'Why am I not good at anything?' But talent is not something that can be neatly divided, as if with a knife cutting tofu, into what someone is good or bad at. Some talents remain buried, while others blossom brilliantly. As the book suggests, I think the outcome may depend on how positive a person feels. As Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences suggests, intelligence is not

First, think about the person called 'I.' I am a thinking living being and a member of society. In other words, I consist of a 'personal self' and a 'social self.' To understand myself, I need to look at both my personal and social sides. (p. 22) But real change should begin with a change in 'identity.' To borrow model Han Hye-jin's advice, 'Every part of the process is grueling anyway. Just picture the finished version.' That finished version is an identity that starts with who I am today and

As my oldest child started high school, I began diligently looking for and reading books and information about college. Once high school began, college suddenly felt close, and I became anxious because I felt we were not prepared enough. My child had been diligent at school from elementary through middle school, and I thought they were doing well academically, so I assumed high school would be fine. But after their first exam results came back unlike anything I had seen before, college seemed

College is often called the most youthful time of life, but it should also be a time to think about and put into practice how to live well in the years that follow. Making the most of college means treating it as a time to choose a path toward a better future for ourselves. We can see many students thinking about their careers and taking on challenges through plans of their own. Sadly, there are also students who lead reckless lives. Education is said to be a plan for a hundred years. In other

I hope you take time to understand college life today and think clearly about the path ahead after graduation. In Korea, from elementary school through college, people are intensely focused on future careers. I thought a lot about my own career from a young age; it was something I heard about throughout my school years. The point when career planning gets the most attention is the transition from 11th to 12th grade and then to the end of college admissions. It appears in education news about

It may be harder to find a job now than at any other time. Our economy is worsening, and companies' hiring and recruitment policies are contracting. It is true that it seems quite complicated and difficult for college students to figure out how to prepare for employment, explore career paths, and make choices and take action. Still, this guidebook feels positive because it lets readers reflect on the meaning of college, what college students should do, practical career management, and a
