The first book I read in Herman Hesse's works was Demien. I didn't think it was hard when I read it. Although he was able to understand the whole flow and plots, he did not cover a few of the many different fields of information in this book, especially the psychology and ideas of Karl Gustaf Jung, which are so often found in places that they are stuck in one place or another. It is still difficult to read again after a long time. Still, the more profound picture of the red star in the book was
