Description

Hans Urs von Balthasar is one of the most original Catholic theologians of the 20th century, a scholar who exerts a profound influence today not only on Catholicism but also on Protestantism. There is a book that he intended to republish shortly before his passing. Only upon this republication did he write a preface that was not included in the first edition, asserting, “The spiritual implications of this book have not changed with the passage of time.” This book is *The Heart of the World*. It will soon be 50 years since I wrote this book on a summer day by the lake in my hometown. However, the spiritual implications of this book, presented anew, have not changed with the passage of time. – From the Preface

Because my comprehension is lacking, the text is abstruse and difficult, so it doesn't sink in easily; however, as I reread it, I eventually find myself contemplating the depth of God's love for me. Apart from the content itself, when I read the text while considering the age Father Balthasar was when he wrote this book, I can feel the passion and love of a young theologian.

Theologian Balthasar's works do not flow effortlessly due to their critical and profound words. However, they are inevitably picked up because they serve as a stepping stone for the intellect currently capable of awakening to the identity of faith. *The Heart of the World* is divided into three parts: Kingdom, Suffering, and Victory. With a resolute cry, the author unfolds the narrative like a prophet, like an apostle reporting by Jesus's side, and like the Bible itself traversing the Old and

I have read many Catholic books before, but this is the first time I have seen one with such an elegant writing style. What could have easily been a dry and difficult subject is explained in such beautiful prose that even if there are parts I do not understand, the beautiful sentences keep me reading. On the other hand, I also constantly felt as though I were reading a difficult devotional. If reading a book like *The Imitation of Christ* feels like a rest—reading a short passage, meditating on

#ReligiousBooks #CatholicPublishingHouse #CathReaders #HeartOfTheWorld #HansUrsVonBalthasar @catholic_book I read Hans Urs von Balthasar's *Heart of the World*, the March selection from CathReaders. It was not an easy book. For one thing, the author's expressions and writing style felt difficult to me, as I am not at all lyrical(?). However... the more I read, the more the author's unique paradoxical and dynamic expressions approached me with a charm different from what I had experienced

The reason I chose this book was my desire to take on the challenge of reading a difficult text. After all, if I only choose easy books, I won't be able to train my writing skills. I received it a little later than others and started reading it as soon as I opened it, but I struggled with how difficult it was. The fact that I am still holding the book by my side even as I write this review says it all. Rather than summarizing the contents of the book piece by piece, I intend to write about its
