When Reading Smart first came out, I thought its many supplementary materials would make it useful in lots of ways, and that many questions requiring literacy meant it was high quality. I am so glad there is now Reading Smart Starter, an earlier entry-level reading book that students can try sooner. Strongly recommended.
I couldn't find a suitable reading workbook for middle-school students with weak foundations or upper-elementary students, so I'm really glad that Reading Smart Starter has come from Hackers, a publisher I trust~~ The content, convenient answer key for grading, and workbook for direct translation make this a book I really want to recommend~~^^
I think the design and colors of a workbook are as important as its content!! The design is pretty and doesn't get tiring^^πππ It seems like a good book for students preparing for middle school^^ The passages are fun and the answer guide seems detailed, which I like^^π§‘π§‘π§‘π§‘
Like Hackers Reading Smart Starter Level 1, the questions are well designed, and I especially like that students can practice written responses. The explanations show direct translations, which should be very helpful.
The main priorities when teaching middle-school English are (1) building reading comprehension by reading passages on varied topics, (2) developing accurate translation skills, and (3) building vocabulary. I think Reading Smart Starter can develop all three. To build reading comprehension, students first need to read many passages, and the best thing about Reading Smart Starter is that it contains passages reflecting current issues and writing formats likely to interest children. The workbook
It seems like a workbook that introduces children to nonfiction passages without putting them off. Rather than looking at the material once and moving on, the Review Test checks it again through vocabulary and sentence study based on what they learned. The practice problems in Hackers' strong workbook help reinforce skills once more. These benefits make me want to settle on Hackers for reading books!
I enjoy using the Reading Smart series, and the newly released Reading Smart Starter is good too. The workbook is neatly organized, and its topics can stimulate children's learning, so I think they will study with curiosity. The included workbook would be just right for review as homework.^^
Choosing English reading materials for upper-elementary students is a concern for every academy instructor. Above all, students need to find them interesting to keep studying steadily. I like the varied topics in Hackers Reading Smart Starter, and I have high expectations since it is said to cover both reading and school grades at once.
It seems like a good workbook for students who understand basic sentence structures in elementary school to review once without pressure before moving straight to middle-school materials. Some otherwise good books make a sharp jump from a very easy level to the intermediate level, but now that Hackers Starter is available, step-by-step learning seems possible.
The reading passages reflect current issues, making this useful for preparing for current exams. They are filled with interesting content that helps students stay focused to the end. It includes varied question types and essential, high-quality problems, as well as English composition questions for studying different sentence patterns. Highly recommended.
