Description

Awareness and concern about the disappearance of the next generation from Korean churches have been public topics for a long time. Many churches that value the next generation continue to struggle in their own settings, but they have yet to find a clear alternative. They plan and carry out new content and events that keep pace with the times, yet cannot overcome the dilemma of exhausting church schools without securing sustainability. This book does not deal with ministry methods or strategies for the next generation. Instead, it argues that we should walk alongside them. The next generation is not a group to be won over or easily defined. To understand what Christian faith and the church mean to Christian teenagers and young adults living in Korean society, we must keep looking closely at their reality. They live within their everyday language, media culture, economic ideas, and worldview. We Are the Next Generation is a report containing missiological and anthropological insight into the young people of contemporary Korean society, often called Generation MZ.

We often use the phrase “the next generation,” but many people don’t actually know who the next generation is today. This book is very helpful for understanding the young people living in the present.

Back in my day, we were Generation X, but MZ covers a wide range. The book defines Generation Z as people born from 1997 to 2012, following M and MZ. The Gen Z people I know are free-spirited, just as we were back then. To avoid becoming a rigid old-timer, we

I’m a pastor from the M generation. People around me sometimes say that I’m an M who seems like a Z. They mean it positively because of my frank speech and free-thinking, but each time I felt somewhat uncomfortable. Why group me with them? I thought I was different. I believed that even though I was candid and free-thinking, I clearly knew where to draw the line with my seniors. Reading this book made me realize again that M and Z are simply different, and there’s no reason to resent that. We
