Giovanni Botero: Theory of State Reason

This is the Italian political thinker, diplomat and priest, Jovani Bottero, 1544. 1617) was published in Venice in 1589. The first book to appear in Korea is one of the works that represents modern political philosophy, along with the pre-existing Nekolo Machiavelli's squire. Professor Tussa, of the Busan University's Department of History, uses Italian source to guide readers through a highly specialized translation, elaborate notes and detailed comments into the unknown world of Botero. Italy, in the late sixteenth century, with its nation-state reason, faced a Royalist who exercised absolute authority as political and religious conflicts were torn apart by surrounding forces and economic stagnation. In this atmosphere, Machiavelli's sultan of 1532 captured the minds of modern men who moved from the Middle Ages to the modern states through criticism and a vision of the dominant Greek philosophical worldview. The name ‘ National Reason ’ was then widely circulated, and the nation’s theory of reason was presented to counteract the ‘ vicious ’ machi avistism. Machiavelli saw that Christianity, by emphasizing human humiliation and teaching only contempt for secular affairs, eventually led the nation down the path of decline, criticized violently and made politics and religion seem irreconcilable.
