Description

The Temple Culture Interpretation Guidebook is a guide to temples and Buddhist cultural interpretation. It is useful as a reference even if it is not a textbook. It carefully organizes the details of Korean temples and culture and the basic ideas of Buddhism, covering fundamental concepts and examples needed to interpret temple culture and help readers understand it. It systematically presents theories and methods of temple interpretation that had not been organized before, along with practical tips. A temple culture interpreter is another name for Buddha: a 21st-century cultural worker who cultivates and introduces Shakyamuni Buddha’s teachings and the Buddhist culture created by later generations. This work continues in the present; it is not confined to the past. Its aim is to guide people from viewing Buddhist heritage as knowledge to seeing and experiencing it through wisdom.

This book collects explanations of Buddhist cultural concepts and perspectives for good interpretation. It’s disappointing that the ideas are somewhat mixed in their order, but I can feel the author’s effort to include all this good material.
