A treasure trove of wisdom that powerful figures in modern Chinese history, such as Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek, always kept by their bedside and cherished. It contains anecdotes of those who conducted themselves wisely from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Ming Dynasty. However, there are quite a few typos in the translation, and perhaps because the translator is of Korean descent, the awkward tone is jarring.
This book contains sounds that you have likely heard at least once in our culture. Wisdom is grouped by theme, and case studies are presented fragmentarily within these major themes. The idea is that you can open it to any page and read it. However, more than that, I feel I gained a different kind of history by observing the lives of the people who appeared in those eras.
