Description

*The Age of Insight* reveals the secrets of art and the unconscious through neuroscience. This book is by Eric Kandel, a genius neuroscientist who caused a sensation in the domestic science book market with *In Search of Memory*, a work that combined neuroscience research findings with his autobiography. It delves into the world of the unconscious—a realm still largely unknown to humanity—by traversing the boundaries of science, art, and the humanities. Synthesizing the author's lifetime of research, this book guides readers to "Fin de Siècle Vienna" in 1900, where science and art—the two major pillars for peering into the mind and the unconscious—began to interact. Focusing on portraits by three familiar artists of the time—Klimt’s paintings imbued with a mysterious sensuality, and the works of Schiele and Kokoschka that evoke an unsettling and unsettling feeling—the book examines how science and art engaged in dialogue and began to explore the human unconscious. Through this, it explains how scientists and artists uncovered the human unconscious and reflected it in their works, as well as how our conscious and unconscious minds operate.

Art from a biological perspective

Words are unnecessary. You simply have to read Eric Kandel's books. I am particularly engrossed in reading to understand the reflections that the artistic worlds of Klimt, Schiele, and Kokoschka—representative Viennese painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries—offer us.

It's thick, but it has lots of pictures, so it flows smoothly.

This is a high-quality book that analyzes humanity from a biological perspective and examines it from the perspectives of art and science.

The more complex and chaotic the situation, the more helpful it is for observing life calmly.

It is sharp. I have gained another perspective on the brain and the world.
