Description

"Korea Research Foundation Series of Translations of Academic Masterpieces," Western Section 62, *The Peasants of Languedoc*, Volume 1. This is the first book by Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, a witness to modern French historiography, compiled from his doctoral dissertation submitted in 1960. In the process of tracing the process of land concentration and division based on Compois from the late 15th to the early 18th century to uncover the origins of capitalism, he breaks away from the narrow confines of economic history and dives into "total history" to deal with the stories of "living people."

This is by far the best history book I have read this year. It clearly demonstrates the true value of Ladurie, who officially succeeded Braudel. I hope Ladurie's other books will be translated sequentially as well.
