Democracy Movement Memorial Foundation: History of the Ulsan Democratization Movement

The history of the Ulsan demunization movement is marked by a noble stream of modern democracy in the sense that it has taken root in the community's specific context. Ulsan, a small rural village away from Seoul, experienced dramatic changes after the specific industrial district of 1962. During the construction of the industrial complex, a large number of immigrants were formed in the area, and as fishing began, serious pollution damages were added. The democratic movement in Ulsan is closely related to the problems that are specialized in the region, including migration and pollution and environmental issues, as well as the political issues in general. The hot practices of various social forces and organizations joined by the suffering-inspiring residents were directly linked to the June democratic struggle. Another feature is that in June, as the workers of the industrial city Ulsan fought for democracy, they appeared on the front page as new agents of the democratic movement. Workers, crushed by a sickly and authoritarian labor culture, started a union movement and went on to demographers on the labor site. The newly developed labor movement has formed and established roles and meanings in the development of South Korea's democracy, as well as in Ulsan.
