This is a reference-style book containing information about actual noble families. If you’re looking for commentary, I wouldn’t recommend it; it’s an informational reference book.
Debrett: 19th-Century Noble Yearbook
An Almanac of the Nobility, a reference book about heads of 19th-century British aristocratic families—including dukes, marquesses, and earls—has been released. Many authors and readers who have enjoyed Loire Books’ 19th-century series have asked questions such as, “I’m curious about the occupations of nobles like dukes and marquesses,” and “I have trouble coming up with Western-style family or character names for historical romance.” The almanac was created to answer questions like these. The heads of 19th-century noble families, such as dukes, marquesses, and earls, appear as characters in countless works today. But in Korea, where the history and culture are relatively distant, resources about them are scarce, making them difficult to use as material for creative work or explore as a reader interested in old European nobility. Questions such as “What did dukes and marquesses actually do in their daily lives?” have remained unanswered, as have questions about titles, families, and the siblings of noble family heads. As you read the many entries about noble family heads in An Almanac of the Nobility, you may find yourself thinking, “I wish someone would write a historical romance about this duke or earl.” The lives of noble family heads from a hundred years ago seem to come vividly into view. I hope that, with the almanac in hand, authors will bring distinguished heads of 19th-century noble families to life anew in their stories.
