*An Inquiry into Global Peace*, a collection of dialogues between Daisaku Ikeda, a world-renowned peace activist representing our time, and Joseph Rotblat (hereinafter Rotblat), a nuclear physicist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who dedicated his life to the abolition of nuclear weapons and the end of war, has been published. This book captures an in-depth conversation between two giants who yearn for a peaceful world for humanity, discussing the problems threatening global peace and their solutions from the perspectives of science and religion. Mutually agreeing that human history is divided into the pre- and post-nuclear eras and that nuclear weapons initiated the destruction of humanity, the book provides a detailed biography of Dr. Rotblat through these dialogues, highlighting his lifelong dedication to the abolition of nuclear weapons. Born in Warsaw in 1908, Dr. Rotblat participated in the U.S. government’s atomic bomb development project, the "Manhattan Project." However, after discovering that the Nazis and Germany were not manufacturing atomic bombs, he withdrew from the project and promoted the movement for nuclear abolition, including his efforts to announce the Russell-Einstein Declaration. After being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995, he dedicated the rest of his life to the abolition of nuclear weapons and a world without war. In the preface, Daisaku Ikeda stated, “I hope that through this book, countless young people around the world will reflect on Dr. Rotblat’s noble life and move forward toward the unprecedented challenge of building a ‘world without nuclear weapons and war.’” Furthermore, Dr. Rotblat, who passed away in London in August 2005, emphasized in the preface to this collection of interviews, “I hoped that through this collection of interviews, completed in collaboration with President Daisaku Ikeda, readers would be reminded of the humanity shared by mankind and internalize both the methods necessary for global security and loyalty to humanity.”
