Description

Men and women are different. From small things we notice in everyday life to numerous studies examined academically, we confirm every day that the two sexes differ. Yet some people feel uneasy or dissatisfied about this. Because history has shown discrimination justified in the name of scholarship, they worry that acknowledging sex differences will ultimately lead to sexism. At some point, people stop acknowledging or mentioning differences between men and women. Without any basis, they think, “Men and women are exactly the same by nature.” But Choi Seong-rak, author of Men Hunt, Women Gather, says that “difference” and “discrimination” are not synonyms. The absurd claim that one may oppress someone because the two sexes differ cannot be accepted. The author emphasizes facing the differences between men and women from the perspective that they are equal but different. Only then can we overcome the misunderstandings and conflicts each sex experiences. Drawing on a range of academic research, the author identifies various differences between men and women. The book compares and analyzes how men and women differ across many areas, including the brain, hormones, genes, evolution, emotions, ways of thinking, senses, education, economics, and society. Familiar examples that anyone can relate to are explained in accessible language. Of course, understanding how men and women differ will not automatically resolve the problems between them. It may at least help us understand one another. Understanding does not necessarily lead to empathy or solve problems, but perhaps it can somewhat ease indiscriminate hatred toward one another.

I trust Choi Seong-rak's books and have read most of the ones available as e-books. But this book and Things I Didn't Know While Working for a Salary still don't have e-book versions. I'm eagerly waiting for them to become available as e-books.

I was drawn to this book because the subject was so interesting. The specific examples made it enjoyable and easy to read. I found the evolutionary psychology approach to the differences between men and women very interesting and engaging.

Honestly, I have read many books explaining differences between men and women, but most of them seemed to explain things through the authors' assertions. This book presents evidence for its claims and solid support based on actual research. What felt new to me was reading how surprised and moved the author himself was as he researched the striking, unmistakable differences between men and women. The scientific evidence stayed in my mind instead of fading away, as things we read often do once we

What stood out to me after reading this book is that acknowledging differences between the sexes does not necessarily lead to sex discrimination; in fact, it is important to recognize and understand those differences. The author argues that recognizing differences between the sexes is not the same as discrimination, and that understanding them can help create better social and educational environments. The book made me think deeply about why it matters to acknowledge sex differences. For
