Choi Seong-hoon: Struggling with the church

If there is something that must not be abandoned even in extreme circumstances, it is "essence." From this perspective, one of the most important essences of Protestantism is the "church." For any Christian living through the post-COVID era, the church becomes a source of concern in this regard. Someone once said that "a source of concern" is "a subject for prayer." However, isn't praying without understanding the content redundant? Therefore, analysis and interpretation are necessary. We must survey the times in light of the Bible and, as much as possible, engage in fundamental contemplation regarding the church through the biblical text itself. This book contains the author's struggle regarding the aforementioned issues. Part 1 serves to identify our current position and addresses the challenges facing 21st-century Korean society and the church. Part 2 covers contemporary insights gained through the seven churches of the Book of Revelation. Part 3 explores alternatives by describing "ecclesiology"—the core theme of Ephesians—in a way that fits modern circumstances, centering on the entirety of the Book of Ephesians. In particular, this book contains excellent insights into the entirety of Ephesians, making it useful in itself for reading the book in a modern context. I sincerely hope that through this book, the Korean church, navigating the vortex of the "Fourth Industrial Revolution" and the "pandemic," will be able to resolve various conflicts and problems, and grow further in maturity. I hope that the Korean church, having been directly hit by a global disease, will once again dream of revival, examine the direction of its ministry, and restore the glory of the church as the body of Jesus Christ.
