Choi Jeong-gwon: Lloyd-Jones's Preaching Theology
This is a doctoral dissertation researching the birth, upbringing, and homiletics of Lloyd-Jones, revered as a great preacher of the 20th century. It examines how Lloyd-Jones led church revival through his preaching and ministry during an era of rapid cultural change and the decline of the Western church in the early 20th century, marked by the conflict between conservatives and progressives and the influence of postmodernism. By examining his homiletics from historical, pastoral, and homiletical perspectives, the dissertation sheds light on the foundations and characteristics of his theology, namely "Christ-centered expository preaching illuminated by the Holy Spirit." While the author is convinced that God accomplishes His work through preaching—that is, through the preacher carrying out the ministry of preaching—he simultaneously points out the dangers of preachers and sermons that are not illuminated by the Holy Spirit and do not rely on Him. Therefore, the dissertation emphasizes the importance of studying and emulating the attitude and homiletics of the exemplary preacher, Lloyd-Jones.
