Description

The future of humanity lies in the collective unconscious! Just as the title says, this book deals with archetypes and the collective unconscious, two of the most important concepts in Carl Jung's psychology. They are considered essential to solving the mysteries of human conscious life. According to Jung, human consciousness exists both consciously and unconsciously, and the unconscious aspect of human existence is common to everyone. That is the collective unconscious, a concept different from Freud's unconscious. Jung called Freud's unconscious—the repressed or forgotten contents of consciousness—the personal unconscious. Historically, people across different cultures, countries, and eras have expressed nearly similar unconscious impulses and desires. From this, Jung inferred that common elements exist deep in the human psyche. He called these similar elements archetypes. Major archetypes include the persona and shadow, anima and animus, the hero, the wise old man, and the Self. The Self tends to seek wholeness and balance between consciousness and the unconscious, which often conflict. Jungian psychology calls this tendency the process of individuation. Jung argued that archetypes mainly appear in personal dreams, so the concrete symbols in dreams are universal: the same symbol has similar meaning across races. At the same time, Jung held that dreams are highly personal. Dream interpretation therefore requires a great deal of information about the person who had the dream.

C. Jung helps make these ideas easier to understand. I hope this broader perspective helps us be more compassionate toward those around us.
