Encyclopedia of Terror
Whenever I think of terrorism, I am reminded of my younger sibling's overseas trip from a few years ago. My sibling had set out on a journey with friends for about a month; after enjoying about ten days of the trip, they spent a suffocating day due to a terrorist attack that occurred there and immediately returned to Korea with their friends. Until then, terrorism was a distant story to me. So, so far away. However, recently, threats of terrorism have been increasing one by one in our country
“Profiling Terror”, subtitled "A New Method to Counter Terrorism," poses the question of whether South Korea will continue to remain a terror-free zone. We frequently hear news of terrorism from around the world. While such news may seem to have subsided as global travel has shortened due to COVID-19, many people are still suffering in various places due to traces of terror and the fear of impending terror. From the 9/11 attacks in New York to ISIS in the Middle East and the drone attacks on
I liked that it explained unfamiliar concepts in an easy-to-understand way. I recommend it.

Baek Su-woong: Profiling terror
From 9/11 in New York and ISIS in the Middle East to the drone attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities... to us, terrorism exists as an image in the news of distant lands. From the Syrian refugee crisis in Jeju, to Mr. Kim who left the country to join ISIS, to the Syrian national residing in Korea arrested and indicted on charges of soliciting and inciting ISIS membership, and even the improvised explosive device (IED) incident at Yonsei University... not only were these events that occurred right beside us, but Korea is also the world's only remaining divided nation. Is it acceptable for us to be so nonchalant about terrorism? If an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft flying in from North Korea was carrying explosives, would that constitute terrorism or not? While the United States and Europe are waging a "war on terror" and conducting research related to terrorism, we remain excessively peaceful despite sharing a border with an anti-state entity known as "North Korea." A lawyer affiliated with the National Counter-Terrorism Commission has published the country's first comprehensive book examining terrorism. Will the Republic of Korea remain a terror-free zone in the future? For the survival of us all, a terror-free zone must be maintained. We now introduce ‘Terror Profiling,’ a new method of combating terrorism capable of preparing not only for terrorist groups but also for the recently evolving lone wolf terror.
