The journey begins with “Nuptials at Tipasa” and effectively ends with “Return to Tipasa,” filled with Camus's vivid prose and his characteristically clear insight into life. Kim Hwa-young's translations are a sure bet. The book cover is so beautiful, and I'm looking forward to the contents!

Albert Camus's lyrical essay collection *Nuptials and Summer* offers a different experience from the absurdity and solemnity of *The Stranger* and *The Plague*: here we encounter the hottest, most beautiful soul in Camus's writing. When people hear Albert Camus, they often first think of absurdity, rebellion, or a gray, cynical image. *Nuptials and Summer* shatters those preconceptions at once. Camus wrote these radiant pieces by experiencing with his whole body the dazzling sun, blue sea, and

Thinking about the places where Camus lived also made me wonder where a place like that might be for me… It's surprisingly difficult for an essay, though 😂

I've read Albert Camus's novels, but this was my first time reading his essays, so I was curious. *Nuptials and Summer* is apparently the seventh volume in Chaeksesang Publishing's revised Albert Camus Complete Works. It is a collection of Camus's travel essays, including *Nuptials*, published in 1939, and *Summer*, published in 1954. In “Nuptials at Tipasa,” you can feel his affection for the Algerian landscape, including Tipasa, a city on Algeria's northern coast, where he savors the vast sea

Albert Camus spent his childhood in Algeria. Though it was one of the poor neighborhoods there, it had a library that helped him forget his childhood poverty. As an adult, he became a pioneer of existentialist literature through his remarkable insight into human existence and justice. Before writing *The Stranger*, Camus traveled through Algeria in his youth, observing and reflecting on his awe of nature. This book collects the essays *Nuptials*, written from 1936 to 1937, and *Summer*, written

*Nuptials and Summer* contains *Nuptials*, published in 1939, and *Summer*, published in 1954. I found it quite interesting that this is a travel-essay collection by Albert Camus. I was also very curious about the kind of language he used in travel writing. I knew Algeria meant a great deal to Camus, so this book—which covers journeys and periods of rest in places ranging from Tipasa and Oran in Algeria to Italy and even Brazil—felt especially distinctive from the Camus works I had read before.

There was a time when I sought out and read only French novels because I loved the soft, dreamy quality I felt in them. My favorite author among them is #AlbertCamus! His works *#TheStranger* and *#ThePlague* are indispensable to French literature, and *The Stranger* was the book that helped him build a reputation and become an author beloved by so many readers even today. He won a critics' award after publishing *The Plague*, and also went on to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Though he was

*Nuptials and Summer* by Albert Camus, translated by Kim Hwa-young, published by ChaekseSang. I once failed to finish Camus's *The Stranger* and had been telling myself I would try again someday. Then I came across Kim Hwa-young's translation of Camus's two works, *Nuptials and Summer*. Albert Camus was born in Mondovi, Algeria, then a French colony, and grew up poor with a widowed mother. He earned scholarships at school and entered the University of Algiers, where he met Jean Grenier, who

I haven't done anything wrong, yet I find myself feeling solemn for no reason. Marriage itself is a process I can't simply understand, but reading the book as a whole made me think about it again. We all live with inner and outer conflicts, and yet life has its share of romance. I wondered whether the discomfort Camus's essays create might be a kind of message to society. That's only my personal opinion, but the author's distinctive character seemed to come through intact. Unlike many
