Ahn Ye-ri: Language problems in modern Korea
The title of the book, the 'language problem,' is a translation of the Italian word raclaree della lingchat, which means the problems of stylization and the standardization of language. In Italy, over 600 years of linguistic debate followed, starting with Dante in the early 14th century and ending with the 19th century. Language problems raised earlier in Italy were a challenge that was encountered by most countries who experienced later modernization, and Korea faced a series of language problems after opening. The text of the book has outlined the language problem in modern Korea through three key words: 'our language,' 'ideal language,'scientific language.'. Part 1 of our language discussed the linguistic situation in the late 19th century when the awareness of ‘we ’ as a language community began to spring up. Part 2 ‘ideal language’ discussed the process of consciousness of the ‘our language ’ in Part 1 which led to the normative formula of the need to direct language in a certain direction and change the actual language. Part 3 of the Scientific Language has looked at the arguments surrounding the ‘ science ’ as a methodology to build the ‘ ideal language ’ that we have considered in Part II.
