Ahlam Sibley (1970–) is a Palestinian photographer who explores the dispossession and exclusion of Palestinians caused by the Israeli occupation. He goes beyond merely depicting reality to pose fundamental questions about land, home, belonging, and loss. These questions extend to exiles, refugees, migrant workers, children, and sexual minorities from all over the world who have been forced to leave their homes for various reasons. Sibley employs a unique method of combining images and text and weaving multiple photographs into series to create a single narrative; this is his own strategy to incisively delve into specific social phenomena to fully tell the stories of lost identities and the land. As John Berger described him, Sibley is the "photographer of the hidden," always standing on the side of the hidden. This book begins with an artist profile by curator and art critic Adam Szymczyk and introduces 135 photographs selected from 17 series produced by the photographer between 1997 and 2017. As the result of a long journey shared by the editor and the author, traveling back and forth between Korea and Palestine during the planning and editing process, Korean and English editions have been published simultaneously.
